Player Guide
A player guide covering how to join the FFS DCS servers, setting up SRS / LotATC / Tacview / Olympus, the browser-based tools, and using the Discord bot.
1. Introduction
FFS is a community running three dedicated DCS World servers. You can join with the free (flaming cliffs) aircraft alone. Start by jumping into Server 1.
| Software | Requirement | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| DCS World (Steam / ED Standalone) |
Required | The game itself. Free aircraft are enough to join |
| SRS client | Strongly recommended | Radio comms. The servers run the v2.3.4 series |
| Discord account | Recommended | Stats linking, server control, announcements |
| Tacview | Optional | Live spectating and recorded analysis |
| LotATC | Optional | For taking part as GCI / ATC |
Your Multiplayer Name in DCS will later be linked to Discord (8. Discord). Decide on it before joining to make things smooth.
2. Connecting to DCS
Launch DCS → Multiplayer → pick a server from the list. You can watch who is online in real time on the Status page.
| Server | Name in DCS | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Server 1 | FFS open alpha 1 | Permanent — the main slot, flyable any time |
| Server 2 | FFS open alpha 2 | Free use — missions can be swapped in and out |
| Server 3 | FFS open alpha 3 | Events / CO-OP — free to use when no event is running |
Server 2 / 3 only start when needed. Even while stopped, anyone can boot them with
/server startup on Discord
(8.3).
If it doesn't show up in the list — Direct Connect
If the server list is crowded and you can't find them, specify the IP and port directly. For the game client we recommend entering the IP directly (hostname resolution sometimes fails on the DCS side).
| Server | Host | Port |
|---|---|---|
| Server 1 | 111.237.107.64 | 18101 |
| Server 2 | 111.237.107.64 | 18102 |
| Server 3 | 111.237.107.64 | 18103 |
3. SRS Voice
SRS is per-coalition, per-frequency voice chat. It does not use DCS's built-in voice. Install the same v2.3.4 series as the servers (different versions cannot connect).
- Start the SRS client (the same PC as DCS is fine)
- Enter the address from the table below in Server Address and connect
- Once in an aircraft it auto-syncs with the on-board radio (Auto Select Controls = ON recommended)
| Server | Address | Port |
|---|---|---|
| Server 1 | 111.237.107.64 | 18111 |
| Server 2 | 111.237.107.64 | 18112 |
| Server 3 | 111.237.107.64 | 18113 |
4. LotATC / Tacview
LotATC — joining as GCI / ATC
For supporting friendly aircraft as ground-controlled interception (GCI). Connect from the LotATC client to the server and pick your coalition to join.
| Server | Port |
|---|---|
| Server 1 | 18121 |
| Server 2 | 18122 |
| Server 3 | 18123 |
Even without LotATC you can run control from the browser with Web GCA (7. Browser Tools).
Tacview — real-time spectating and recording
With Tacview Advanced you can watch the fight live and record it at the same time.
Point Tacview's Record a Telemetry Stream at
111.237.107.64:1813x.
| Server | Telemetry | Remote Ctrl |
|---|---|---|
| Server 1 | 18131 | 18141 |
| Server 2 | 18132 | 18142 |
| Server 3 | 18133 | 18143 |
Even without Tacview, recording happens automatically and the files are downloadable from Lardoon. For spectating alone, Sneaker works entirely in the browser.
5. DCS Olympus
An RTS-style control interface for placing and commanding units from the browser. You can take part entirely in the browser, without launching DCS.
- Spawn units on the map (aircraft, ground forces, ships)
- Task existing units (move, attack, escort, refuel, etc.)
- Group formations, set routes, change ROE
- e.g. build friendly-support scenarios on the spot around whoever is currently flying
| Server | URL |
|---|---|
| Server 1 | freedomflight.jp/olympus1/ |
| Server 2 | freedomflight.jp/olympus2/ |
| Server 3 | freedomflight.jp/olympus3/ |
Getting started
- Open the URL of the server you want to join (table above).
- Pick a Role:
Game master= referee who can control all coalitions /Blue commander/Red commander= their own coalition only - Enter the Password and press Login.
Passwords are posted on Discord
in the
#status-serverNchannel (the bot's auto-updated status post), in the DCS Olympus section alongside the connection URL (three entries: GameMaster / Blue Commander / Red Commander). Olympus currently runs on Server 1 only, so see#status-server1.
When bookmarking, include the trailing slash
(/olympus1/). A missing slash is auto-corrected anyway.
Radio (SRS integration)
Olympus can connect to the SRS radio. Enable the audio feature via the speaker icon at the top of the screen. The browser will ask for microphone permission the first time.
- The SRS endpoint is chosen automatically per server (Server 1 connects to Server 1's SRS)
- Chrome is recommended (the officially supported browser for Olympus)
This feature is brand new. We have confirmed that Olympus connects to SRS and shows up in the SRS client list, but actual transmitting / receiving has not been thoroughly tested yet. If it doesn't work for you, or you notice anything odd, a report on Discord is appreciated. For situations where the radio absolutely must work, keep using the regular SRS client.
The audio feature only works over HTTPS, because browsers only grant
microphone access on secure connections. Use the https:// URLs from the table above.
6. Browser-based tools
Even without DCS you can follow the fight and run control from the browser alone.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Status | Server status, mission, weather, connection info and load, refreshed every 15 s |
| Sneaker | Live 2D map of airborne aircraft. For AWACS roles and ground command |
| Web GCA | Browser ATC console. GCA (PAR) approach control, GCI, TWR. Runway data auto-fetched from DCS |
| Landing Teacher | Auto-detects and grades landings: LSO grades for carrier traps, A–E for field landings Server 1 only for now |
| Lardoon | List, search and download auto-recorded Tacview (.acmi) files. Trim to a single flight |
| Replays | Download DCS replays (.trk); play them via File → Open in DCS |
| Leaderboard | Last-30-day rankings for flight time, kills and K/D |
| Known Issues | Known issues and their fix status |
7. Using Discord
7.1 First step — account linking
Link your in-game DCS name to Discord. Without this, replays and stats won't be attributed to you.
- Run
/linkmein any Discord channel - Paste the 4-digit TOKEN it shows into in-game DCS chat (press Enter → type it in)
- When the bot DMs you "Linked successfully", you're done
You can also start from inside DCS: type .linkme in chat.
7.2 Watching the servers
| Command / Channel | Description |
|---|---|
/server list | All servers: status, missions, player counts |
/serverload | CPU / RAM / FPS / network graphs — for narrowing down performance issues |
/serverstats | 1-month aggregates (player count trends, etc.) |
#status-server1/2/3 | Bot-maintained status and participants, with a recent-24h load graph appended |
#chat-server1/2/3 | Two-way bridge between in-game chat and Discord |
#events | Kills, crashes, trap grades, bombing hits and other notifications |
7.3 Controlling missions / servers
On Open α, nearly all commands are open to @everyone. Use them freely.
| Command | Action |
|---|---|
/mission load | Switch missions |
/mission restart / rotate | Restart / advance to the next mission |
/mission pause / unpause | Pause / resume |
/mission modify | Change presets: weather, time of day, etc. |
/server startup | Start a stopped server (when you want Server 2 / 3) |
/server stop / restart / shutdown | Stop mission / restart / shut the server down |
/server lock / unlock | Block / allow new joins |
/server password | Change the slot password |
/server shutdown and /server password directly affect other
players. Check whether anyone is connected before using them.
Adding mission files
To add a .miz you built, just drag & drop it into the
target server's #admin-serverN channel. After upload you can switch to it
right away with /mission load.
Same-name files are overwritten. Rename anything you want to keep before uploading.
7.4 Stats and rankings
| Command | Description |
|---|---|
/stats | Your kills / deaths / K/D / flight time |
/info <user> | Another player's public stats |
/sorties | Sortie counts and hours per airframe |
/greenieboard | Carrier trap grade rankings |
/missionstats | Event stats for the current mission |
/help | List of available commands |
8. Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| Server doesn't show in the list | Use Direct Connect (111.237.107.64:1810x). Your router may also be blocking UDP |
| Can't join Server 2 / 3 | They are stopped. Run /server startup on Discord to boot them |
| SRS reports version mismatch | The servers run the v2.3.4 series. Reinstall the same series |
| Bot doesn't respond | You may not have run /linkme. After a bot restart, command sync takes a few minutes |
| Can't log in to Olympus | Check your Role / password combination. Passwords are posted on Discord in the #status-server1 status post (DCS Olympus section) (5. DCS Olympus) |
| Sneaker shows "disconnected" | The mission currently has 0 units. It reconnects automatically once the mission progresses |
| New recordings don't appear on Lardoon | There is up to ~30 s of lag. If it's longer, please report it on Discord |
